Hot and Cold

I swear Owen is constantly telling me when things are hot (and most recently, cold). But whenever I try to catch it on camera, I'm too late or he's not in the mood to "perform". So, over the course of the last couple days, this is the best I could capture...but you get the idea. :)

"HOT"

"COLD"

Bandaid

I noticed a sore on the bottom of Owen's foot last night during his bath. Afterwards, I looked at it a little closer and could tell there was a sliver in it. (He had stepped on something a while ago, but I couldn't see anything on/in his foot....now it was surfacing.) So, Jimmy helped hold him while I pulled out the culprit with some tweezers. We put hydrogen peroxide on it and topped it off with some antibiotic ointment and a bandaid.

Owen did not like that sticky thing on the bottom of his foot one bit. He kept sitting down, whining, and picking at it. We tried to distract him. It would work for a couple seconds, then he'd sit down and look at the bandaid, and look with pleading eyes at me to take it off. A pair of socks put it out of sight, out of mind...then he was back to playing.

.

Jar Stuffer

Yesterday morning, Owen helped me get the beans ready to can. He was my official"jar stuffer." He climbed up on my lap, watched me take a couple handfuls of beans and put them in the jar, and he considered his training complete. He went to work right away stuffing handful after handful of beans into the jars. We had that task done in no time flat. (well, you know how quick a task goes with the help of a toddler...you do the math. :) )

Park= Continuous, never- ending fun= one tired boy=great naps!

Last week, Danielle and I took Owen and Addi to the park. We tried hard to get a good picture of the 2 of them together, but they had better things to do. This was the best we could do. Who has time to sit still for a picture when there's a whole playground of things to play and climb on??

Owen and Addi's favorite part of the day was going down the swirly slide over and over and over.

Okay, so I think Owen is part monkey....take a look at these next two pictures. Yes, he really did climb up this entire thing by himself. (yes, he was fully supervised and ready to be caught at the slip of a foot)

...Last big step to the top...I wish I would have caught his expression on camera when he reached the top and turned around to look down at me!

On Monday (our Saturday), we took a family trip to the park.

progress to celebrate

Sorry, no pictures tonight....too tired to wait up for them to upload...but feeling guilty about my lack of posts as of late. So for now Owen is...

--FINALLY sparking an interest in books!!! He is beginning to go to his book basket and look at books and babble as he turns the pages, be entertained by books during car rides, see library books on the kitchen table and want to read them, bring me books and plop into my lap to read them with me, and imitate my inflections as I read his favorite books. YAY!!!

--enthralled with sitting on chairs. He just feels like such a big boy to sit on a chair like mommy and daddy.

--not fighting diaper changes!! Whew! Those were like wrestling matches for a while! Yesterday, I told Owen it was time to change his diaper. He walked into his bedroom, laid down in the middle of the floor (where we have been doing the changes as of late) and laid nice and still while I followed him into his room and did his diaper change. At first I thought it just might be a coincidence...but guess what?? ..He did it again later in the day and again for all his changes today! What a victory!!

"Pop"--new sound

Corn on the cob

The best $1 spent in a long time

Saturday morning Owen and I went to a few garage sales. Boy, did we hit the jackpot! We bought a kiddie sized broom (50 cents) and a lawn mower (50 cents)!! I don't know who was more excited about these finds--me or him. When we got home from the sales, he played with is broom for quite a while.

Notice Owen with is "snipped" paci below

Then later that afternoon we had to go run a few errands. When we go home, we went about our usual routine. I got Owen out of his car seat and set him down to grab some things out of the van. I brought in a load of stuff inside and left the door open behind me because he usually just follows me right inside. I started to unload a few things from their bags when I noticed Owen hadn't followed me in. I looked out the window to find....

Owen had spotted his lawn mower sitting outside our door and thought it was the perfect time to take it out for a spin. So, we "mowed the lawn" until Daddy got home and it was time to eat supper.

...Oh, the joy of lawn mowing...hopefully he thinks it's this much fun when he's old enough to really mow!

15 Month Dr. Appt.

Owen went for his 15 month check up on Thursday this week. He is a healthy growing boy! Here he is waiting for Dr. Hoover to come see him.

And his stats:

Weight- 23.2 pounds
(This time he was weighed on the "big boy" scale--the kind you stand on---the trick was getting him to stay still long enough to get a reading.)
Height-31.25 inches
**Dr. Hoover also recommended we get rid of his paci now, rather than battle it after our new bundle arrives...advice we knew we'd hear, but weren't looking forward to it. Well, I started on Friday afternoon by cutting off part of the paci tip. He wasn't sure what to think of the change but still clung to it for about 24 hours. Then last night when I was putting him to bed, I offered it to him and he declined. He went to bed with barely a fuss.! Naps are a little rough, but Owen is doing quite well with the transition. YAY!!
